(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 7)—Junior Marcus Power (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill.) registered 45 saves in leading the McKendree College hockey team to a 7-1 victory Friday at home against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Power allowed a first-period goal, then blanked the Cougars over the final 53 minutes to pick up the victory. McKendree jumps over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 5-4. The Bearcats and Cougars will meet again Saturday at 3 p.m. in the final game of McKendree’s season-opening 10-game homestand.
Freshman center/wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill.) scored the first two goals of the night for McKendree, the last of which gave the Bearcats the lead for good, 2-1, early in the second period. The Bearcats pulled away by scoring three times in each of the final two periods. Sophomore center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior wing Keith Jacob (Fairview Heights, Ill./Belleville East) (Fairview Heights, Ill.) each posted a goal and two assists for McKendree.
Sophomore Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill.), junior Brent Grimm (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill.) and freshman Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill.) also scored for the Bearcats, who extended their season-high win streak to three games.
